Your Library:

Accomplishments, Resources, & Highlights

The Ferndale Library has been a pillar of the community since 1930. You can find a complete history of the library from 1930 through the mid-2000’s on its website.

Over the last 10 years, since the passage of the most recent millage, the library has significantly expanded the number of events, programs, and resources that it offers free to the community. There are also enriching free events like concerts, art exhibitions, and a wide range of craft nights, ideal for tapping into your creative side while socializing with your neighbors.

The library has also forged several partnerships with local organizations to host off-site library programs and present special events, including Drifter Coffee, Ferndale Project, The Ferndale Cat Shelter, Urbanrest Brewing, Ferndale Pride, Ferndale Garden Club, and the W.A.B.

About Our Staff and Facility

There are three primary service desks: Circulation (check-outs, library cards), Adult Reference (near public computers), Youth Reference (Kids Corner); staff at each of these desks record an average of roughly 15,000 interactions per year, EACH, which can cover library card sign-ups, research questions, tech help, reading recommendations, providing information about our community, and so much more.

Staff is also credited with planning and facilitating all events and programming, from the engaging craft nights to the top-tier local talent featured at its concerts and art exhibitions to the always-popular Summer Reading Challenge.

Year in and year out, the library has offered engaging programming, helpful, friendly, and responsive customer service, and curated collections of circulating materials that can entertain and empower all library cardholders. This is not an exclusive club, though; even if you don’t have a library card, you can still visit the library, use its resources, and attend its programming.

All are welcome, and all can benefit. But it can’t sustain without us! That’s why we need your help to protect our library!

Up to 15,000 residents attended programs at the Ferndale library in 2025.
