FADL offers a significantly high number of free cultural events and educational programs.

FADL is open 7 days a week, with free digital borrowing, events, and resources for everyone.

Why the Millage is on the Ballot

Library funding comes from voter-approved property taxes (millages)

  • Renewal of the millage seeks citizen approval every 10 years.

  • The 2016 millage expires in 2026.

Due to Michigan’s Headlee Amendment, the effective rate dropped from 3.5 to 2.81 mills — meaning the library gets less revenue even as property values rise. Key point: The ballot may look like an increase, but the operations millage is just restoring the original funding level.

What’s on the 2026 Ballot

Operations Millage – Restores and slightly increases funding for day-to-day services.

  • Total: up to 3.31 mills (that’s $3.31 per $1,000 taxable value)

  • Supports staff, programs, collections, and technology, and keeps the library open 7 days/week.

Capital Asset Millage – Funds building repairs and upgrades.

  • Rate: 0.5 mill

  • Supports HVAC, roof, flooring, network upgrades, and accessibility improvements
